川田画廊ではこのたび、彫刻家・河原悠の個展を開催いたします。
河原 悠（かわはら・ゆう）は1988年生まれ、2011年に京都精華大学を卒業。
木材を彫刻し、その表面を樹脂で覆う独自の手法を用います。
木材に残された生命の痕跡を新たなかたちで提示し、物質の存在と人間の知覚の関係を通じて、「存在すること」の根源的な意味を問いかけます。

植物は失われても、その存在の痕跡として木材が残る。
私は木材を人の知覚へと開き直すように造形し、その痕跡を時間の中で引き延ばそうと試みる。
鑑賞者は目の前の作品の存在を知覚すると同時に、その素材がかつて別の生命であったことを知覚する。
そこには、目の前にあるものが「存在している」という事実と、「存在そのもの」が同じではないという隔たりが現れる。
その隔たりを通して、作品は、存在とは何かを問い返す契機となる。

Kawata Gallery pleased to present a solo exhibition by sculptor Yu Kawahara.
Born in 1988, Yu Kawahara graduated from Kyoto Seika University in 2011. He employs a distinctive technique of carving wood and encasing its surface in resin. By presenting the traces of life preserved in wood in new forms, his work explores the relationship between material existence and human perception, inviting us to question the fundamental meaning of what it means to exist.

Even after a plant is gone, wood remains as a trace of its existence.
Through sculpting, I seek to reopen wood to human perception and extend its traces through time.
As viewers perceive the work before them, they also become aware that its material was once another form of life.
Here, a gap emerges between the fact that something before us “exists” and “existence itself.”
Through this gap, the work becomes an occasion to question what it means to exist.
