Kawata Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by the artist Ai Chuda.

Using materials such as mineral pigments and sumi ink, Chuda creates works that seem to draw out hidden forms from deep within the surface. Through processes of layering, scraping, and polishing, her paintings quietly reflect the accumulation of time, memory, and existence—offering viewers a deeply resonant visual experience.

In recent years, Chuda has also been deeply engaged in charcoal drawing. Working with a material that responds immediately to the hand, she captures the essence of life—its breath and vitality—within a stark world of black and white. For Chuda, charcoal drawing has become a vital form of expression, allowing her to face “life” in its most distilled and direct form.

This exhibition will feature a selection of new works, including both charcoal drawings and paintings that reveal the invisible emotions and subtle presences that lie beneath the material surface. We invite you to experience the quiet power of Ai Chuda’s artistic vision.
